Jodie Blackshaw (geb. 1971) ist eine stolze Australierin, die im Südosten des ländlichen Australiens (Wiradjuri) aufwuchs und schon früh eine sehr persönliche Beziehung zur Musik aufbaute, indem sie ihre Vorstellungskraft kreativ auf musikalische Farben und Bewegungen anwandte. Heute sucht sie in ihrem Unterricht und beim Komponieren weiterhin nach kreativen Erfahrungen für ihre Schülerinnen und Schüler, damit auch sie die persönliche Beziehung genießen können, die sie in ihren prägenden Jahren entdeckt hat.
Jodie hat mehrere Preise für ihre Kompositionen gewonnen und komponiert mit Stolz Musik für alle Altersgruppen und Fähigkeiten. Im Jahr 2020 schloss sie ihre Promotion in Komposition bei Carl Vine und später bei dem australischen indigenen Komponisten Dr. Christopher Sainsbury ab. Ihre Musik wurde als Prüfungsstücke in staatlichen und nationalen Wettbewerben aufgeführt, steht auf zahlreichen Repertoirelisten der staatlichen Lehrpläne und wurde von zahlreichen Schul- und professionellen Ensembles in ganz Australien, Europa und Amerika aufgeführt.
Jodie hat dreimal an der Midwest Clinic in Chicago teilgenommen (2012, 2014, 2018) sowie Aufenthalte und/oder Konferenzpräsentationen im Nahen Osten, in Hongkong, Vietnam, den Niederlanden, in Kanada, Australien und den Vereinigten Staaten durchgeführt. Sie ist bei Manhattan Beach Music, GIA Music Inc. und Alfred Music erschienen und wird exklusiv von Brolga Music/C. Alan Publications.
Blackshaw setzt sich leidenschaftlich für die Erforschung und Entwicklung des Klangs von Blasorchestermusik ein und glaubt, dass die Programmgestaltung und Aufführung von Komponisten mit einer anderen „Klangwelt“ der Schlüssel ist. Zu diesem Zweck gründete sie 2017 die Datenbank für Komponistinnen für Blasorchester (https://www.jodieblackshaw.com/female-band-composers), die inzwischen von mehreren führenden Bildungseinrichtungen, Lehrplanprogrammen und Blasorchesterkonferenzen, darunter die Midwest Clinic, als Instrument für die Repertoireauswahl herangezogen wird. Im Jahr 2018 gründete Blackshaw die Website www.colourfullmusic.com als Reaktion auf eine von ihr kuratierte Podiumsdiskussion für die Midwest Clinic mit dem Titel „Directors for Diversity“. ColourFULL Music stellt verschiedene Blasorchesterprogramme vor, die von einer internationalen Gruppe führender Dirigenten innerhalb der Blasmusik-Community entwickelt wurden, und hat mittlerweile mehr als 5000 Musikpädagogen und Dirigenten.
Seit Juli 2022 ist Jodie stolzes Vorstandsmitglied der World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
Jodie Blackshaw (b. 1971) is a proud regional Australian who grew up in the south-east of rural Australia (Wiradjuri) and formed a very personal relationship with music early in life through the creative application of her imagination to musical colours and movement. Today, she continues to seek creative experiences for students through her teaching and composing so they, too, may enjoy the personal relationship she discovered in her formative years.
Jodie has won multiple awards for her compositions and proudly composes music for all age groups and capabilities. In 2020 she completed her PhD in Composition studying with Carl Vine and later, Australian indigenous composer Dr. Christopher Sainsbury. Her music has been featured as test pieces in state and national competitions, appears on numerous state curriculum repertoire lists and has been performed by numerous school and professional ensembles throughout Australasia, Europe and the Americas.
Jodie has thrice presented at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago (2012, 2014, 2018) as well as conducted residencies and/or conference presentations in the Middle East, Hong Kong, Vietnam, The Netherlands, throughout Canada, Australia and the United States. She is published by Manhattan Beach Music, GIA Music Inc., Alfred Music and is exclusively distributed by Brolga Music/C. Alan Publications.
Blackshaw is passionate about exploring and developing the sound of wind band music and believes that programming and performing composers with a different “sound world” is key. To that end, she founded the Female Band Composer database in 2017 (https://www.jodieblackshaw.com/female-band-composers) which is now cited as a tool for repertoire selection by several leading educational institutions, curriculum programs and wind band performance conferences including The Midwest Clinic. In 2018 Blackshaw founded the website www.colourfullmusic.com in response to a panel presentation she curated for the Midwest Clinic entitled ‘Directors for Diversity’. ColourFULL Music shares diverse wind band programs created by an international array of leading conductors within the wind music community and now has a following of more than 5000 music educators and conductors.
In July 2022 Jodie proudly became a board member of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
