David Worrall

David Worrall ist seit über vierzig Jahren Berufsmusiker. Er wurde als Percussionist im Sydney und Australian Youth Orchestra ausgebildet. Als Gründungsmitglied des zeitgenössischen Ensembles The Seymour Group arbeitete David Worrall auch mit dem Sydney Symphony Orchestra und den beiden Ballett- und Opernorchestern zusammen, bevor er eine Zeit lang als Solo-Percussionist des Melbourne Symphony Orchestra tätig war. Anschließend trat David der Royal Australian Air Force Band als Percussionist und Solopauker bei.

Im Jahr 1987 studierte David Percussion bei Richard Miller, Colin Piper und Michael Askill. Er studierte Dirigieren bei Roland Yeung, Barry Bignell und Patrick Thomas, bevor er in die USA ging, um an der renommierten US Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, die Fächer Dirigieren und Arrangieren (Berklee Course) zu belegen. Er schloss sein Studium bei David Johnson als Drittbester seiner Klasse ab und kehrte nach Australien zurück, um das Kommando und die Leitung der Air Force Air Command Band in Sydney zu übernehmen. Während seiner 12-jährigen Amtszeit hat David das Profil dieser Band auf internationales Niveau gehoben und war für seine zahlreichen australischen Erstaufführungen von neuem Blasorchesterrepertoire mit diesem Ensemble bekannt. Außerdem begann er mit der fortlaufenden Blasorchester-Aufführungsreihe Band Call in der St. Andrews Cathedral in Sydney.

David war Gastdirigent bei vielen Gemeindebands und -orchestern in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide und Brisbane und hatte das Glück, in den 1990er Jahren die neue Sydney Symphonia zu dirigieren. Von 2001 bis 2002 war David außerdem Musikdirektor der NSW Police Band und leitete die Cammeraygal Wind Symphony, die Canberra City Band und die Albury City Band. David ist ausgebildeter Musiklehrer und hat die Musikausbildung in Sydney, der Region NSW und Victoria durch Workshops, Meisterklassen und Jurys positiv beeinflusst. Von 1999 bis 2002 leitete er das North Sydney Girls High Instrumental Program und führte es zur Verleihung des Director General’s Award für künstlerische Exzellenz und einer Europatournee.

David Worrall has been a professional musician for over forty years having trained as a percussionist with the Sydney and Australian Youth Orchestras. As an inaugural member of the contemporary ensemble The Seymour Group, David also worked with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the two ballet and opera orchestras before a period as the principal percussionist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. David then joined the Royal Australian Air Force Band as percussionist and principal timpanist.

In 1987, David studied percussion with Richard Miller, Colin Piper and Michael Askill. He studied conducting with Roland Yeung, Barry Bignell and Patrick Thomas before moving to the USA to undertake the conducting and arranging (Berklee Course) at the prestigious US Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. Studying under David Johnson, David graduated third in his class, and returned to Australia to take the command and directorship of the Air Force Air Command Band in Sydney. Over his 12-year command tenure, David raised the profile of this band to international standing and was renowned for his numerous Australian premiere performances of new Wind Band repertoire with this ensemble. He also commenced the ongoing wind band performance series Band Call at St Andrews Cathedral in Sydney.

David has been guest conductor with many community bands and orchestras in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane and was fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct the new Sydney Symphonia in the 1990s. David also served as Director of Music of the NSW Police Band from 2001-2 and served as the Director of the Cammeraygal Wind Symphony, Canberra City Band and Albury City Band.

David is a qualified music teacher and has positively influenced music education in Sydney, regional NSW and Victoria through workshops, master classes and adjudication. He was the Director of the North Sydney Girls High Instrumental Program from 1999-2002 leading them to the award of the Director General’s Award for artistic excellence and a tour of Europe.
